What Customers Say About ScanSoft PaperPort 11:

I have a tech friend whose setup is the same as mine,EXCEPT he doesn't have Paperport installed and his Office works fine. After frustrating days of Word crapping out and that darn message, I was about to reformat and start over but my patience was too thin to think about doing that. Therefore, after every email, if I needed to use the program, I'd have to exit and restart Paperport. It could work once and then crash again. I'd have to shut down and restart.

I tried so hard to wait til Windows 7 but I took the plunge to Vista. I left any keys with "PaperPort" in the name alone. In addition, there were 2 more changes in the registry I made, not related to Paperport, but in any event they corrected the corruption of Word:Here's the fix:The fix was to rename two files, through the following path: Start button/All programs/Accessories/Run and type in 'regedit' and then follow the path HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Office/12.0/Word. and then change the folder called 'data' to 'olddata' and change the folder called 'options' to 'oldoptions'.Well, that's it. Word 2007 works great now and Paperport 11 works with my new cheap Canon LiDE200 scanner. I've had many versions of Paperport and the last was 10 on Windows XP. It was a great document organizer and good for converting documents to.pdf My problem with 10 was it couldn't handle more than one direction at a time. Then installed MS Office 2007 Enterprise edition. I'd have to do a repair.

No other app would crash except Word 2007. I ventured into the MS forums and lo and behold, there were many with the same "Word has stopped working" message but only one person had mentioned Paperport 11 and bingo, he hit the nail on the head. In fact, I find that my scans are much quicker and Paperport 11 is much faster than 10. Export it to your desktop just in case things get messed up.There are COM add-ins that messed up Word 1007.Here's the resolution though:Go to Start, Run, type in regedit. Then go to:1) HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Addins (In my registry, the add-ins are NOT in the "Office\12.0\Word" subkey, but in the "Office\Word" subkey - Microsoft please take note)2) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\Word\AddinsIn all situations, I removed the add-in key that had "Zeon" in the name. It worked. I had installed Paperport Pro 11 with PDFCreate, the same software he had installed too.If you have the same problem as me, the answer is to go into the registry and delete the references to PDFCREATE by ZeonREMEMBER TO BACK UP THE REGISTRY BEFORE DOING ANY CHANGES.

If I had to email more than one time in one session, the app would hang. I started doing inquiries and research. Since I build PCs myself, this is the first time I ever encountered a problem with Word 2007. Very, very annoying and a big waste of my precious time.Well, since I just built my new business PC due to a crash, I stupidly installed Vista Ultimate. Then I found out Paperport 10 didn't and I was forced to upgrade to 11.1 After that, Word 2007 croaked very often, giving me a message, "MS Word has stopped working".

It would be nice if the installation wizard would offer the chance to alter the storage location.Once it's all set up, the user interface is intuitive and easy to use. The key seems to be to install PaperPort AFTER the scanners and printers (and OCR software if you have it) have all been installed and verified as working properly. At least that's how I got it to work.PaperPort wants to put all the doucments you scan into a folder it creates upon installation, but it's a fairly simple task (for an experienced PC user) to force it to store documents elsewhere (I put all my user documents on a second hard drive). I've used PaparPort for many years and love the way it works. I wouldn't have upgraded to version 11 if I wasn't already sold on the earlier versions and version 11 has some very nice improvements over the previous versions. After some hassle, I was able to get PaperPort and Vista to play together fairly well. I was forced to upgrade to version 11 when I purchased a new PC with Vista OS. I still hold my breath every time I start PaperPort half expecting it to lock up the system, but that hasn't happened in a couple of weeks now.

Their software and support on their website is the worst I've dealt with in a long time. Unbelieveable. They will NOT get anymore of my money (I purchased full copies of Omnipage Pro 16 and Paperport 11). By Nuance's own admission on their website this product will not work with networked scanners. I recently purchased a Canon MX860 (networked) and THEN found out that Paperport won't work with it.

There is a work-around but it requires a few more steps. I purchased this product to keep track of the many internet receipts as well as written warranties, bills, etc. I am satisfied with it but do not think it is worth the high cost. Also, it works with only a limited number of scanners. I receive. I found that direct web capture will not work with Vista.

What a waste of money, time, and patience. Do NOT get this if you are one of the hundreds of thousands of people out there who had little or no choice than to get a Vista PC.
